Global CO² emissions are currently at 37 gigatons (billions of tons) per year. The Paris Accords reached at COP21 in 2015 are an attempt to dramatically reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2050, in order to keep global warming to less than 2 degrees centigrade compared with pre-industrial historical averages. However, all the commitments made by every country in Paris are not nearly enough to avert climate disaster. To hold global warming to less than 2 degrees, we must remove CO2 from the atmosphere and oceans.
We believe CO² is a valuable resource that presents an opportunity for innovative businesses to profit and contribute to solving the climate challenge. Business, city and state leaders, and citizens can chart a path to a “carbon positive” future.
